About The DAS Full Motorbike Licence
The Direct AccessScheme (DAS) is for those people who would like to get a full unrestricted motorbike licence. DAS is only available for people aged 24 and over, unless you have already held an A2 motorcycle licence for at least 2 years and are following the progressive access route, which allows people who have held their existing A2 bike licence for 2 years to upgrade their licence to a full unrestricted licence by simply re-taking their practical test on a larger unrestricted motorcycle. Upon passing your DAS test, you will be entitled to ride any powered motorbike or scooter of your choice, carry pillion passenger's and use motorways.
The DAS test needs to be sat on a motorcycle / scooter which is at least 595cc, and has a power output greater than 40kw (53.6bhp).
As with all the other motorcycle tests, if you decide to pass your direct access test on a manual bike you will be able to ride any motorcycle or scooter/moped, whether it is manual or automatic. However, if you take your direct access course on an automatic bike, your licence will be limited to automatics motorbikes only.
Direct Access (DAS) Training Requirements
You are required to take your DAS test on a motorcycle which is at least 595cc with a minimum power output of 40kw (53.6bhp). You will need to pass both the DVSA Module 1 & Module 2 practical motorcycle tests in order to obtain your licence. Find out more about the DVSA motorcycle test here.
In order to attend a Direct Access motorcycle course, you will also need to have a valid driving licence (both Photocard & Matching Counterpart), which can be held in various ways:
- A Provisional UK Driving Licence (Apply Here)
- A Full UK Driving licence
- An EU Driving Licence (A D91 Form must also be obtained from the DVLA, which you can obtain by completing a D9 Application)
Unless you hold an existing A2 motorcycle licence and are following the progressive access route, you will have needed to have completed your CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) and be able to competently ride to a good confident standard. If you are nervous, inexperienced, or would like to learn how to ride a manual bike, or refresh yourself on a manual bike, then we would recommend you booking a 1-2-1 session with us before attending your DAS training course to ensure your riding is at a suitable standard.
The final requirement for you to book your DAS Motorcycle training course is for you to sit and pass the motorcycle theory test. Once you have passed your motorcycle theory test, you will get a motorcycle theory test certificate number which is needed in order to book your practical Direct Access Motorcycle test.

Direct Access Training Course's
Our Direct Access motorcycle courses are based in London and are tailored to each individual. For the majority of people, it would be their first time on such a big motorbike, yet at the same time, we also recognise that some people may have been riding big motorbikes for years (e.g maybe in a foreign country, or off road).
For this reason, we assess each pupil's needs on an individual basis. We do not dictate that every person who wants to do Direct Access will need a 4 or 5 day DAS course as we know other training schools do. In fact, we do quite the opposite. We advise you on what our various DAS Courses involve, and then let you decide which course is best suited to your experience level. We ask you some critical key questions to get an understanding of your experience, which helps us give you an opinion on which course is best suited to you, however the final choice is up to you. Please bear in mind though, that if you claim to have more experience than you actually do, and opt to do a shorter course to save time and money, there is every chance you will not be in a position to pass your test first time, and may well end up spending more time and money on resits. For those pupils who are still unsure which course is best for them, we urge those pupils to come into our offices and speak to an instructor face-to-face, and even try sitting on, and riding the bikes to help both you and us make a correct and viable decision.
Our Direct Access (DAS) Motorcycle training courses in London are typically run over 3 days. This allows us suffiecient time to train you to pass both the Module 1 & Module 2 practical tests. A typical 3 day course would envolve the following:
Our 3 Day DAS Course (Most recommended):
Day 1: This consists of Module 2 training in the morning. The purpose of this session is to allow your instructor to help make sure that your riding proceedures (mirror/shoulder checks, positioning, roundabout proceedures etc) are correct and are at a standard high enough for you to ensure you pass your Module 2 motorcycle test first time. This Module 2 training also provides you with a chance to familiarise yourself with the bike you will be using. The afternoon session consists of Module 1 Training. We take you to our extensive Module 1 training site which is large enough for us to be able to replicate all of the Module 1 excercises. Your instructor will then talk you through each excericse, and give you tips on how to make each exercise much easier. Our Module 1 training site is exclusive for our Pupils, and is a key contributing factor to our 95% first time pass rate.
Day 2: You will have a recap on your Module 1 exercises before heading up to the DVSA test centre. We aim to get you to the test centre about half an hour before your test so that we can hopefully watch and talk you through a 'live' module 1 test being conducted. After you have completed your Module 1 test, we continue with more Module 2 training taking your around the most popular test route roads, and highlighting common places where people often make errors so that you hopefully don't! You will hear on many of previous pupils commenting in our video testimonials about how the routes we teach are quite often the exact same roads that they were taken on for their Module 2 test.
Day 3: Involves us recapping both the safety/pillion passenger questions and some of the most popular test routes again before you taking your Module 2 test.
We can offer Module 1 & Module 2 tests on the same, but do not recommend this as although it is more convenient for training schools to take this approach, it is not the best option for the pupil, as you are the ultimately the one taking the risk, and placing additional pressure on yourself to pass your Module 1 test.
Inexperienced Riders
For those people who are inexperienced, or have little or no experience riding manual bikes or big bikes, we strongly recommend doing a 1-2-1 session with one of our instructors. This 2 hours session is aimed soley at getting you up to a standard good enough to attend our standard 3 Day Course. For some people, this session will include teaching them how to ride a manual bike, and then converting those skills onto a larger bike, whilst for others it may be purely a confidence boosting session to enable them to get used to riding a larger bike without the pressure of another student being present. Whatever your standard of riding, our instructors objective is to have you ready for a 3 day DAS course at the end of your 1-2-1 session. As the 1-2-1 session is just you and your instructor, the instructors sole attention is on you, which allows us to focus on your area's of weakness, and make your learning experience much faster and enjoyable.
How beneficial are your 2 hour 1-2-1 Sessions?
We beleive our 1-2-1 sessions are the key to our high pass rate. Because learning is taking place on a 1-2-1 basis, your learning curve is much quicker, as the instructor can focus on key area's that you are struggling with instead of diverting his attention amongst a group of students. This undivided attention is absolutely essential when teaching someone a new skill.
We are the only school that we are aware of in London that offers a 2 hour geared conversion, whilst in the same session, migrating the skills learnt onto a DAS bike.

Why are most of your Direct Access courses 3 Days?
Many schools will offer you a 5 or 6 day Direct access course, and while on the face of it this may seem like an ideal option, the underlying fact is that for half of those days you will probably be training on a 125cc bike, and more likely than not, in a group environment of 2-4 other students. It is this group envornment situation which keeps you on the 125cc for typically 2/3 unecessary days, as the instructors attention is focused on a group rather than you as an individual, meaning that you cannot progress onto a DAS bike until everyone in the group has reached a certain standard.
As your DAS test is sat on a big bike, we do not see any mileage in keeping you on a 125cc bike for any longer than necessary, as that is not the bike you will be taking your Direct Access test on. We like to get you onto a 600cc bike as quickly and safely as possible (hence our 2 hour conversion course). You will quickly see that riding a 600cc bike is in many ways a lot easier than riding a 125cc, and once you get onto the DAS bike, you will not want to go back to the 125cc.
Another disadvantage of long DAS courses is that they tend to be more expensive, and by virtue of the nature of the course, requires you to take more time off work, which is not only impractical, but again, also costly.
Therefore, we have comprised a way of teaching you in 2 hours what other schools "sell you" into believing takes 2/3 days, and at the end your session, you would not only have saved time and money, but will also be in a situation where you are ready to go straight onto a 3 Day Direct access training course.
However, we undersatnd that even though a large majority of our direct access course's are run over 3 days, that some people may still want to benefit from our superb instruction on a 4 or 5 day DAS course, and for that reason, we also run these more convential courses, even though these course's are still built around our 3 day DAS courses.

How do I book my DAS Course?
There are 3 ways that you can book yourself onto an DAS course:

Please note, to book your DAS course you will first need to satisfy some basic requirements. Please click here to see more about these requirements:
Legally & in the interests of Health & Safety, you must:
- Arrive on time for the beginning of your course at the location and meeting time stated (15 minutes before your course start time).
- Have a current and up to date full or provisional driving licence which is valid with the correct entitlements, and no bans, restrictions or disqualifications which will legally prevent you from attending your course.
- Bring your original UK Provisional or Full UK/EU photocard driving licence. If your photocard licence has expired, then please bring an original, current and valid UK passport as well as your original expired photocard driving licence. Please note that the picture on your driving licence MUST be a true likeness of you, whether it is valid or expired. If you have the old style paper driving licence, an original, current and valid UK passport is also required. If you have an EU licence, then you will need to bring your original & valid EU photocard driving licence with supporting D91 Form.
- Have and bring with you, a current, original and valid CBT certificate (unless you are upgrading an existing motorcycle licence via the progressive access route).
- Have passed your motorcycle theory test, and bring with you your original, valid motorcycle theory certificate (unless you are upgrading an existing motorcycle licence via the progressive access route and a theory certificate is not required).
If you have not yet passed your motorcycle theory test, then please note the following:- You may still book onto this course, but you will be contacted by email/text and requested to remit any monetary course balance outstanding. This is to ensure that 1 Stop Instruction are not financially disadvantaged by depriving another student of your reserved space on this course should you not successfully pass your motorcycle theory test before the start date of your course.
- If you fail to provide us with your motorcycle theory certificate number, or do not respond to our text/email request for you to remit your course balance within 2 days, then we will, at this stage, remove you from the course and impose the following charges for such actions as per our cancellation and alteration policy in accordance with our terms and conditions:
- A £50 administration fee if you have at least 14 clear days before the start of your course.
- A full loss of your £200 deposit, if you are within 14 clear days of your course start date.
- A full loss of your £200 deposit, plus being contractually liable for any outstanding balance, if you are within 5 clear days of your course start date.
- Bring ALL original and physical documents requested on each day of your training/test. (Photo's or scan copies ARE NOT acceptable).
- Be able to competently ride a manual 125cc bike (unless you are booking an automatic course). This course is strictly aimed at experienced riders only, not teaching you how to ride a geared bike, and if you are unable to competently ride a manual 125cc bike as a bare minimum, you will not be allowed to participate in the course, and any fees paid will be forfeited. Please bear in mind that this course will require you to ride a 600cc bike from the outset. Whilst we do understand that some people may have never ridden bikes bigger than 125cc, this course is aimed at people who are capable of riding larger bikes, and we would recommend anyone who is unsure about riding larger bikes to contact our offices on 020 8597 7333 or 0800 848 8418 and enquire about booking a 2 hour 1-2-1 lesson to familiarise yourself with a larger machine and ensure you are riding to a suitable standard before booking your course.
- Bring YOUR OWN equipment where possible. This includes helmet, gloves and appropriate riding attire. We can lend you a helmet and gloves, but we accept no liability if you deem our equipment being loaned to you as unsuitable or not fitting. To avoid such issue please bring YOUR OWN equipment.
- If you do require to borrow a helmet, and/or gloves, you must accept that you must also wear a face mask and plastic inner gloves to help reduce the spreading of germs/bacteria. We would also encourage you to bring your own hat/balaclava which can be worn underneath a helmet.
- If you can, please bring your own pen (for writing), and own ear piece/in-ear earphones which have/or are compatible with a 3.5mm headphone jack. Our instructors can supply this for you to borrow if you do not have your own, but these have to be shared amongst other pupils as well, and can only be cleaned with sanitising wipes, so bringing your own would be a lot more hygienically suitable, and safer, for both yourself and others.
- Bring your own sanitising supplies (face mask, hand sanitiser, wipes sprays etc) to help prevent spreading of germs/bacteria.
- Wear appropriate protective clothing (you must have a heavy duty or motorcycle jacket & trousers, and sturdy footwear that provides support and ankle protection). Please take weather conditions into consideration when choosing your clothing, especially for cold & wet forecasts. For further guidance on what clothing to wear, please visit the DVSA's website. 1 Stop Instruction cannot be held liable for any practical tests cancelled by the DVSA due to inappropriate clothing being worn.
- Have read the Highway Code, and demonstrate a good knowledge of this and all other UK road traffic procedures at all times.
- When attending your Module 2 test, you will also be required to bring your original, valid Module 1 pass certificate.
- Be able to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 meters (the use of glasses is allowed). If you wear glasses, whether it's for reading or otherwise, bring them with you on each day of your training.
- Be able to understand and reciprocally communicate with our instructors to a conversational level at all times. English translators are strictly prohibited in the interests of health & safety.
- Be able to demonstrate balance and control of the motorbike/scooter at all times.
- Be free from the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Our Instructors decision in this regard is final.
- If using your own scooter / bike for training, it must be of a road worthy condition, to our instructors satisfaction. You must please also bring with you your current CBT certificate, a valid certificate of insurance, MOT (if applicable), and also ensure the vehicle is taxed and displaying two legally sized ‘L’ Plates. If you are unable to meet this criteria, then please do not choose to do the course on your own vehicle, instead, please select to use one of our training school bikes.
- Bring a copy of your booking confirmation (either a print out or electronic copy).
- Agree to name, sign & date our liability disclaimer at the beginning of your training course.
- Read our terms and conditions. By remitting payment to 1 Stop Instruction, it is deemed that you have read, understood and agreed to our terms and conditions.
Booking a Course if you have an EU Licence
If you have an EU licence, you must obtain a D91 Form from the DVLA.
To get the D91 Form, you will need to complete a D9 Application Form. Once you complete the D9 Application, the DVLA will then send you a D91 Form in the post, and allocate you UK driving licence number.
